What unlocking really means

Streaming platforms serve their libraries based on where you connect from. The same show may already be fully available in the US while Japan is still releasing episodes weekly; the same film can have different subtitles and audio tracks by region. The first layer of unlocking is simply keeping your exit in the target region so the platform treats the visit as local.

The second layer is risk assessment. Platforms look at the exit IP's registered location, the type of address block, and recent activity from that block. When an address block is heavily shared, the platform may flag a proxy outright or open only part of its catalog. That is why the same platform behaves differently on different routes.

Why does the same show have a different number of episodes by region?
